More than 250 people were killed after a military plane crashed near Algeria’s capital today. A total of 257 people died in the crash, state TV reported. The plane was heading to Tindouf, an area on Algeria’s border with Western Sahara, but crashed on the airport’s perimeter, Algeria’s defence ministry said. Television footage showed crowds gathering around the smoking and flaming wreckage near Boufarik airport southwest of Algiers.

IPL matches are likely to be moved out of Chennai due to protests over Cauvery water dispute. According to sources, BCCI has given Chennai Super Kings four choices – Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Vizag and Hyderabad as the probable venues for the rest of the seven home games. Donald Trump has warned Russia of imminent military action in Syria over a suspected poison gas attack. “Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and ‘smart!’,” Trump wrote in a post on Twitter. Trump was reacting to a warning from Assad’s main ally Russia that any US missiles fired at Syria over the deadly assault on a rebel enclave would be shot down.
CBI said it is probing another Rs 5,280 crore loan taken by Mehul Choksi and companies from a consortium of 31 banks led by ICICI Bank. The probe is part of the existing FIR filed against Choksi and his Gitanjali Group, CBI added. However, the probe is different from the Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud already unearthed, the investigative agency said. Both Nirav Modi and Choksi left the country with their families in the first week of January this year.
