Government gives the Army free hand to avenge Pakistan’s mutilation act. Government sources said the Indian Army has been given the liberty to respond to the fresh beheading, with defence minister Arun Jaitley holding that the sacrifice of the two Indian men in uniform would not go in vain. India vowed to exact revenge for the “barbaric” mutilation of the bodies during the well-planned BAT (Border Action Team) raid and ambush conducted over 200 metres inside Indian territory, which came less than 24 hours after Pakistan army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited the LoC on Sunday.

India responded firmly to Erdogan’s remarks on a ‘multilateral’ approach to J&K. India used a high-level summit with Turkey to deliver a comeback to President Erdogan’s widely publicised remarks on a “multilateral” approach to Jammu & Kashmir. Using the plaform of a high-level meet between the two leaders, PM Narendra Modi explained to the visiting leader on Monday that it was willing to settle outstanding issues bilaterally. For his part, Erdogan backed India’s fight against terrorism. The response was particularly important on a day when Pakistani troops beheaded Indian soldiers in a cross-LoC attack and days after three soldiers died in a terror strike in Kupwara, J&K.
The State Bank of India cut interest rates on term deposits by up to 50 basis points. Deposits of two-to-three years maturity will now generate a return of only 6.25% annually as against 6.75% earlier. The revision in interest rates came into effect from April 29 and takes into account the growth in deposits following the merger of associate banks. The new rates will apply only to fresh deposits and existing deposits on renewal. The highest return offered by the bank for general investors is now in the one-year to 455 days category where it offers 6.9%.

Donald Trump said he’s open to meeting Kim Jong-un, under ‘right circumstances’. The US President said he would be honored to meet the young North Korean leader under the right circumstances, even as Pyongyang suggested it will continue its nuclear weapons tests. Trump did not say what conditions would need to be met for any such meeting to occur or when it could happen.Tensions on the Korean peninsula have been high for weeks driven by fears the North might conduct a long-range missile test, or its sixth nuclear test, around the time of the April 15 anniversary of its state founder’s birth.
The Supreme Court ordered medical examination of Justice Karnan’s mental health. The apex court ordered the mental health check up in the face of his defiant refusal to appear before the Supreme Court in contempt proceedings. The order came even as the SC finds itself in a difficult situation in dealing with a sitting High Court judge who has continued to commit contemptuous acts, rejecting the directions of the higher court and passing disparaging remarks against the seven-judge bench which is hearing the contempt plea against him.
