Major Leetul Gogoi had used a Kashmiri man as a ‘human shield’ against stone pelters in the Valley. The Army chief, in the recent past, had defended Gogoi’s controversial action, stating the Major’s decision prevented casualties and injuries. |

| There have been huge totalling errors in this year’s CBSE board exam papers. Documents accessed by TOI revealed how a Mumbai student who scored 80% and above in all his subjects, scored just 50 in maths. After verification, his marks were revised to 90. Another economics student who was ‘failed’ with 9 marks finally ended up with 45. TOI mailed and texted a questionnaire to CBSE’s chairperson and spokesperson but there was no official response. CBSE currently only allows verification while re-evaluation is possible only after a court order. |

Months before his second major conviction in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case, gangster Abu Salem has alleged his presence and trial in India have been rendered illegal following the termination of his extradition order as upheld in 2014 by Portugal’s court of appeal. While permitting his extradition in 2005, the Portugal court had said that Salem cannot be given the death sentence. |
