Healthcare programme for 10 crore poor families to go into effect by October 2. The programme will be funded in a 60:40 proportion by the Centre and states, with the premium per family estimated at Rs 1,000-1,200. Under this plan, 10 crore families, which were classified as deprived in the 2011 census, will be given cover. The beneficiaries will be able to avail treatment anywhere in the country in empanelled private or public hospitals. Read

Maintain highways across the country or toll charges will be halved, NHAI has warned officials. The warning came soon after the Madras high court ordered to slash toll charges by half at a toll plaza in Tamil Nadu due to poor maintenance. “We respect the court order and take it in the right spirit. I have asked NHAI not to challenge the order. We propose to put a protocol for assessing maintenance of roads every year,” said Union road transport and highways secretary Yudhvir Singh Malik.
NIA has submitted a letter to court written by a Pakistan PM as evidence to prove ties between Pakistan government, ISI and Hurriyat leaders. As part of its investigation in terror funding case, the probe agency submitted the letter in court which was written to main hawala conduit and Zahoor Ahmad Shah Watali, a chargesheeted businessman from Kashmir. The NIA had recovered the letter from Watali’s residence last year. However, the officials refused to divulge which Prime Minister of Pakistan had written the letter to Watali.
For the first time, a prosthetic limb will be implanted on a male tiger. A top orthopaedic surgeon and leading veterinary doctors of the Maharashtra Animal and Fisheries Science University will implant the prosthetic limb. The artificial limb would be procured from AO Foundation in Germany, which has expertise in fixing fractures of humans and animals. The tiger’s paw was amputated in 2012 after it got caught in a steel trap laid by poachers outside Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve.
Senior Uttar Pradesh police official was caught on camera taking a pledged to build Ram temple. The state director general (home guard) Surya Kumar was caught taking the pledge at a public event titled “Ram Mandir Nirman Samasya Evam Samadhan”. He is the senior most IPS officer in the state and was in the race for the post of state police chief till last month. The Participants resolved to construct a grand temple in Ayodhya, saying, “Hum sab Ram bhakt aaj sankalp lete hain ki jald se jald Ram mandir ka bhavya nirman ho.”
