A no-confidence motion notice has to be supported by at least 50 MPs to be taken up in the House. Dinesh Karthik pulled off last-ball heroics yesterday to beat Bangladesh and win the Nidahas Trophy. Karthik displayed immense calm as he smashed Bangladesh’s Rubel Hossain for a couple of sixes and fours to score 22 runs in the penultimate over. The chase ended on a dramatic note as Karthik hit a flat six over extra cover at a point when India needing 5 to win with one ball left. Earlier, Sabbir Rahman (77 off 50 balls) helped Bangladesh post 166/8.

| The government has moved on integrating the three armed forces under a single leadership. Vladimir Putin has won another six years at Russia’s helm in a landslide victory. Putin’s victory will extend his total time in office to nearly a quarter of a century, until 2024, by which time he will be 71. Only Soviet dictator Josef Stalin ruled for longer. Putin has promised to use his new term to beef up Russia’s defences against the West and to raise living standards. In a victory speech near Red Square, Putin told a cheering crowd he interpreted the win as a vote of confidence in what he had achieved in tough conditions.

| The SP’s Akhilesh Yadav has reached out to RJD chief Lalu Prasad to fight the BJP together in the 2019 Lok Sabha Polls. This move came after the BSP successfully supported SP candidates in the recent Lok Sabha bypolls in Uttar Pradesh's Phulpur and Gorakhpur. Akhilesh has deputed party vice-president Kiranmoy Nanda to meet Lalu Prasad and his son Tejashwi in Ranchi.
