Kidambi Srikanth, Saina Nehwal today headlined India’s first badminton mixed team gold in Commonwealth Games 2018. This is the country’s first mixed team badminton gold at any edition of the CWG, and it has come under the expert tutelage of Dronacharya Pullela Gopichand, who was the recipient of the Times of India Sports Award Mentor of the Year award in February for his role in turning India into a global badminton force. The contingent from Malaysia was beaten 3-1 on the back of strong shuttle play from Ashwini Ponnappa, Satwik Rankireddy, Kidambi Srikanth and Saina Nehwal. Read more

China has said Hong Kong can accede to India’s request to arrest Nirav Modi. Asked about India’s request, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told a media briefing in Beijing that “according to the one country two systems and basic law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), under the assistance and authorisation of the central government, the HKSAR can make proper arrangement on judicial mutual assistance with other countries.” Nirav Modi, who is wanted in connection with the Rs 12,700-crore scam at the Punjab National Bank, is reportedly in Hong Kong.

The US-based company will send a detailed message at the top of users’ news feed, offering information on apps they use and the information they have shared with those apps. It will also tell people if their information may have been improperly shared with Cambridge Analytica. Also, all 2.2 billion Facebook users will receive a link to see what apps they use and what information they have shared with those apps.

BJP and Congress today indulged in a war of words on ‘fast’ versus ‘farce’. The BJP today dubbed the Congress party’s day-long fast against the Centre a “farce”, with one saffron party leader alleging that some Congress leaders feasted even as they asked other members to go hungry. The Congress responded saying some of its members did eat breakfast as the fast was from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm and a “symbolic” one. In a Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur, two District Reserve Guards jawans were killed, and five were injured. The IED blast was triggered by Maoists when the forces were travelling from Kutru to Jangla in Bijapur. While PM Modi is scheduled to launch a healthcare programme ‘Ayushman Bharat’ on April 14 in Bijapur, amid other events, including inaugurating a railway line from Dalli Rajhara to Bhanupratappur and addressing a public rally, Maoists’ have already marked their displeasure.
