| Aadhaar number will be mandatory for registration of death from October 1. The home ministry said today that it would be applicable for the residents of all states except Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and Meghalaya, for which a date would be notified separately. “It will provide an effective method to prevent identity fraud. It will also help in recording the identity of the deceased person. Further, it will obviate the need for producing multiple documents to prove the identity of the deceased person,” it said. |

| Rahul Gandhi’s car was pelted with stones during his visit to Gujarat. Gandhi arrived in Gujarat’s Dhanera on a day-long visit to flood-affected regions of the state to meet people and take stock of the prevailing situation. District Banaskantha’s Superintendent of Police said a man threw stones at Gandhi’s car, breaking its rear glass when he was on his way from Lal Chowk to the helipad in Dhanera. Some of the people gathered at the spot also raised slogans hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The stone-pelter was detained shortly afterward. |
| Karti Chidambaram moved the Madras High Court for quashing a lookout circular. In his petition, Union minister P Chidambaram’s son Karti contended that the July 18 circular had been issued arbitrarily and without jurisdiction by the Foreigner Regional Registration Officer and The Bureau of Immigration under the Union home ministry at the behest of different agencies to prevent him from travelling abroad. The case related to alleged irregularities in the FIPB clearance to INX Media for receiving overseas funds when his father was the Finance Minister in 2007. |

| Air India has delayed the payment of July month’s salaries to its employees. “The salaries for the month of July are delayed. There is no official word on the delay. Now, the salaries are expected to be paid next week,” an airline official said. The airline, which has been in the red for long, has around 21,000 employees. The airline has a debt burden of more than Rs. 50,000 crore. The previous UPA government had extended bailout package worth little over Rs. 30,000 crore to the national carrier for a ten-year period starting from 2012. |
