| China today promised to address the issue of widening trade deficit with India. Indian and Chinese commerce ministers are meeting at Delhi amid possibilities of newer dynamics in Indo-China trade. Visiting Chinese Commerce Minister Zhong Shan “welcomed Indian investment in China and promised to address the trade deficit between the two countries,” according to the Indian trade ministry’s statement. | Steve Smith stepped down as Rajasthan Royals captain following the ball tampering scandal in South Africa. Ajinkya Rahane will replace Smith as captain for the team for IPL 2018, which starts from April 7. With 2333 runs in 72 innings, Rahane is the second most successful batsman for the Jaipur-based franchise after Shane Watson (2474). At this year’s IPL player auction, the 29-year-old was purchased by Royals for Rs 4 crore. |

The Congress party’s social media head tweeted saying the party app “has been defunct for a while now”. “The URL for membership on the INC (Indian National Congress) app has been defunct for a while now. Our membership is through the INC website. How difficult is that to understand,” tweeted the Congress party’s social media head Divya Spandana. |
| Supreme Court today agreed to examine the constitutional validity of polygamy and ‘nikah halala’ in the Muslim community. The SC noted that the five-judge bench which examined instant triple talaq – and pronounced their order in August last year – had kept open the issues of polygamy and ‘nikah halala’. It issued notices to the Centre and the Law Commission asking them to make their stand clear on a batch of petitions asking the two practices be abolished. |
| Pakistan rejected Pervez Musharraf’s request for security on returning to the country. The Ministry of Defence has conveyed to the Dubai-based former president through his counsel that providing him security is not its job, the Dawn newspaper reported. The 74-year-old retired Army general has been living in Dubai since last year when he was allowed to leave Pakistan on the pretext of medical treatment. |
