Fugitive businessman Nirav Modi has written to the CBI expressing inability to face the law in India. He said the agency, with its seizures, had taken away his fundamental right to defend himself, making him “handicapped” to share any information with the investigators. He was responding to <a href=”https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/cant-return-due-to-cbi-seizures-nirav-modi-to-agency/articleshow/63373452.cms”>CBI’s third digital summons </a>sent on his email. An officer of the CBI said on Monday that “Nirav Modi’s replies are nothing but excuses”. |
The Centre has proposed to ease green norms for the building and construction sector. Under proposed laws, projects up to 50,000 sq metres will not require prior ‘environmental clearance.’ However environmentalists voiced concerns that this would give a free pass to builders who could easily misuse the norms for constructing shopping malls and multiplexes. |

Pakistan has protested denial of visas to its citizens wishing to travel to Ajmer Sharif in Rajasthan. M Natarajan, husband of jailed AIADMK leader VK Sasikala, died early this morning. The 74-year-old underwent a dual organ transplant in October last year. He was admitted to the ICU on March 16 following severe chest infection. He was on ventilator support. Doctors said he underwent a tracheostomy on Monday. |
