| Around 34,000 farmers have reached Mumbai to gherao Maharashtra’s Vidhan Bhawan today. The farmers, led by the Left-affiliated All India Kisan Sabha, have marched from Nashik to Mumbai. | India and Pakistan are accusing each other of harassing and intimidating diplomats. The spat between the two countries began after Pakistan’s spy agency, ISI’s raid on a residential complex under construction for Indian diplomats in Islamabad. It reportedly also disconnected the electricity and water supply to the property owned by India. Meanwhile, Pakistan issued a statement, saying it is becoming difficult for its diplomats to function in Delhi. The Pakistan High Commission lodged complaints of harassment of its envoys with the external affairs ministry. |
| The National Investigation Agency has summoned former Nagaland chief minister TR Zeliang. The probe agency asked him to appear on March 13 in Delhi in connection with an investigation related to alleged “tax collection” and “extortion” by banned Naga insurgent groups from state government departments. The former CM has been asked to appear with documents pertaining to the alleged illegal payments. The investigation agency has been probing the case since August 2016 and had also summoned three senior officials of Zeliang’s office earlier. |

| Five trekkers were killed in a massive forest fire in Tamil Nadu’s Theni district. A group of 37 trekkers who were on an expedition in the Western Ghats got trapped in a forest fire in the Kurangani hills in Tamil Nadu. According to initial reports, some of them are still missing. The forest department wasn’t informed about the expedition, it said, because the club had not obtained its permission for the trek. Some15 people have been rescued till now. |
| With an eye firmly on China, the Indian Railways has started building infrastructure to ensure swift mobility for the Army. This includes construction of things like concrete ramps for the loading of tanks, howitzers and infantry combat vehicles on special trains, in areas like Bhalukpong in Arunachal Pradesh, Dimapur in Nagaland, Silapathar, Missamari and Murkongselek in Assam. The Indian Army wants to ensure it can swiftly mobilize as well as switch forces between the western front with Pakistan and the eastern one with China much faster than what is possible now. |
