The India-France joint statement has no mention of the acquisition of another 36 Rafale fighters as hoped for by the French government. Indian sources said a decision on more Rafale fighters will be taken once delivery of the initial lot of 36 jets begins though the two sides finally signed an agreement for nuclear reactors at Jaitapur. The Supreme Court ruling permitting a ‘living will’ is not likely to impact insurance payouts as most policies are bound to honour their terms after one year of issuance. The clarification comes after a section of senior citizens yesterday flagged the Supreme Court’s decision, which permitted a person to specify a future medical condition where life support system is withdrawn, to express concern whether death through passive euthanasia will impact sum assured under life insurance policies.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has pulled out 20 officers in a single day from its ‘Special Vyapam Scam Branch’ in Bhopal. All these officers have been transferred to the probe agency’s anti-corruption branch in Delhi. The CBI had created the Vyapam branch in 2016 and posted more than 100 officers, including a DIG, ASPs, DSPs and inspectors, at its Professors’ Colony office. With the recent transfers, more than 70% of the staff has been moved out in the last six months, sources said.

Patidar leader Hardik Patel has said that not meeting Congress president Rahul Gandhi ahead of the Gujarat polls was a mistake. Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) is set to transfer the technology on low-cost e-vehicle batteries to the automobile industry, its chairman Dr K Sivan has said. Dr. Sivan said, Isro has developed four types of cells for space applications and that the organisation is now working to transfer the technology to the industry. The move comes as a huge relief for the industry as Li-ion batteries are currently not manufactured commercially in India but are imported from Japan or China.
