| India has launched a global hunt for 234 naval helicopters worth over $5 billion. These include 123 naval multi-role helicopters (NMRHs), with potent anti-submarine warfare capabilities, as well as 111 armed naval light utility choppers (NUHs) for operations from the decks of warships. The projects will be executed under the new “strategic partnership” (SP) policy under the “Make in India” framework. The government has sought responses from original equipment manufacturers through RFIs by early-October. |

| Nine coaches of Delhi-bound Kaifiyat Express derailed near UP’s Auraiya district during the wee hours today. The accident, which left 60 passengers injured, occurred around 2.40am when the train collided with a dumper. | The UP government has ordered FIRs to be registered against doctors and officials of BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur. An FIR has also been lodged against the supplier of liquid oxygen on the basis of a report submitted by chief secretary Rajiv Kumar. The government also ordered the transfer of additional chief secretary, medical education, Anita Bhatanagr Jain to the post of DG, training. The report has advised medical education minister Tandon to inspect the medical colleges and address the grievances and take remedial steps. |

This comes a day after President Donald Trump unveiled a new strategy to force the Taliban to negotiate a political settlement with the Kabul government.
