At least 23 people died and over 70 others were injured when 14 coaches of the Puri Haridwar Utkal Express derailed in UP. The accident, said railway sources, seemed to be the result of the failure and negligence of railways staff. An ”unofficial’ maintenance work was being carried out, and the driver of the train was unaware of it. The railways staff did not put any red flag or signal on the route.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi cautioned his ministers against staying in five-star hotels and availing of any benefit from PSUs. He is understood to have said that he was extremely unhappy with the recent tendency of some ministers’ preference to stay in five-star hotels instead of accommodation that the government provides.

Indians continued to be the largest group of H-1B visa aspirants during the first nine months of the current US financial year.
