| The Supreme Court today declined Sahara chief Subrata Roy’s plea to stay the global auction of Aamby Valley property. Justice Dipak Mishra said the court will stay the auctioning of Aamby Valley only when the Sahara group deposits Rs 1,500 crore with the Securities and Exchange Board of India. Roy had moved the top court yesterday, seeking to put a hold on the auction process to sell the group’s Rs 34,000-crore worth Aamby Valley property by the official liquidator of the Bombay High Court. |

| Bhutan today refuted Beijing’s claim that Doklam belonged to China. Official sources in the Bhutanese government said that Bhutan stands by the statement it issued on June 29 that states that the construction of the road inside Bhutanese territory is a direct violation of the agreements. A top Chinese diplomat, Wang Wenli, had earlier claimed that Bhutan had conveyed to Beijing through diplomatic channels that the area of the standoff belonged to China. |
| Indians and nationals of 46 other countries can now stay for up to 60 days in Qatar without getting a prior visa. Qatar Airways today spelt out the fine print of Qatar’s policy of doing away with prior visa requirements for citizens of 80 countries that was announced yesterday. The 80 countries have been divided into two parts with different stay periods, 60 days and 90 days, under its new visa-free scheme. Qatar Airways group chief executive Akbar Al Baker said this move will place Qatar as the most open country in the region. |

| A special court today ordered framing of graft and criminal conspiracy charges against 11 former MPs. The MPs were charge-sheeted in the infamous 2005 cash-for-question scam for allegedly taking money to ask questions in Parliament. Special Judge Poonam Chaudhry said that charges for alleged offences of criminal conspiracy under IPC and under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act were prima facie made out against these former Parliamentarians, who were expelled in the wake of the scam. |

On his first trip to Bihar since the end of the Grand Alliance, the senior JD(U) leader said that Grand Alliance and the BJP had put out different manifestos for the state election and they were face-to-face. “It’s for the first time in history of the country that the two manifestos of rival groupings have mingled. I continue to stand for the ‘Gathbandhan’ (Grand Alliance),” he said. |
