| The Shia Waqf board has moved the Supreme Court for ownership of Babri Masjid. The Shia Board of Uttar Pradesh approached the Supreme Court, challenging a trial court order which had on March 30, 1946 declared the mosque as Sunni Waqf Board property. In its appeal, the board has admitted that Babri Masjid was constructed after demolishing a temple on the site and contended that the trial court committed a grave error in declaring Babri Masjid as Sunni Waqf property as the mosque was built by a Shia muslim. |

| Congress has expelled for six years eight of its MLAs who cross-voted in yesterday’s Rajya Sabha elections. These MLAs are: Shankarsinh Vaghela, his son Mahendrasinh, Raghavji Patel, Bhola Gohil, Dharmendra Jadeja, P K Raulji, Amit Chaudhary, Karan Patel. AICC general secretary incharge of Gujarat unit Ashok Gehlot said he has also recommended the expulsion of six of its legislators who had earlier resigned as MLAs. Three of them had later joined BJP. Asserting that indiscipline will not be tolerated in the Congress, Gehlot said those expelled were indulging in anti- party activities. |

| The government has conveyed to Islamabad that there has been a spurt in terrorist activities along the LoC. The Indian side also conveyed to Pakistan that it had noticed an increase in infiltration bids and that Pakistani forces were providing cover fire to terrorists in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) seeking to cross the LoC. According to Indian officials, ceasefire violations by Pakistan have gone up considerably in 2017. While 228 such violations by Pakistan were reported in 2016, there had been 285 violations by Pakistan until July 31 this year. |
| Qatar has announced visa-free entry for citizens of 80 countries to encourage air transport and tourism amid a two-month boycott by its neighbours. Nationals from dozens of countries in Europe and elsewhere including India, Lebanon, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United States will now receive tourist visas on arrival to the gas-rich country. “The visa exemption scheme will make Qatar the most open country in the region,” Hassan al-Ibrahim, Chief Tourism Development officer at Qatar Tourism Authority told reporters at a press conference in Doha. |
