| After the protest of Marathas in Mumbai today, Devendra Fadnavis has agreed to meet their demands. Thousands of people waving saffron flags marched through Mumbai early in the day, protesting for quotas for the Maratha community in government jobs and education. Ceding to their demands, the Maharashtra chief minister has extended all the educational concessions that Other Backward Communities (OBC) receive to the Marathas as well. |

| Three terrorists were killed today in an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir, police said. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Gulab Bagh area of Tral in Pulwama after receiving specific inputs about the presence of terrorists there. As the forces were conducting the search operation, the hiding terrorists fired upon them resulting in an encounter. The identity of the slain terrorists are being ascertained, the police said. |
| The man accused of stalking a woman in Chandigarh last week, presented himself at the police station today. Vikas Barala, a BJP leader’s son, is charged with abduction under IPC sections 365 and 511 by the Chandigarh Police. The second accused, Vikas’s friend, was also present for the interrogation. Vikas and his friend had allegedly stalked, harassed Varnika Kundu, who was driving alone in Chandigarh on Friday night. |

| Dalai Lama said that Doklam standoff between India and China is not very serious. “It’s (Doklam standoff) not very serious, India and China have to live side by side,” said the Buddhist leader, who’s based in Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh. Without naming China, he also said that he doesn’t like places where there is no freedom. He added that he hopes “eventually” China would also become a democratic country. |
| Arun Jaitley today said the Indian armed forces are strong enough to meet any challenge. The finance minister, while initiating a special debate in Rajya Sabha to mark the 75th anniversary of Quit India Movement in 1942, said India had faced many challenges over the decades but has become stronger with each challenge. He also said that the people of India have a predominant wish of retrieving the parts of Jammu and Kashmir occupied by Pakistan since 1948. |
