| America’s aviation security agency has decided to implement new screening procedures for carry-on items at airports. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has decided to implement stronger screening procedures that require travellers to place all electronics larger than a cell phone in bins for X-ray screening in standard lanes due to increased threat to aviation security. The US had recently lifted the laptop ban on non-stop flights to the country from airports such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha. |

| The Nitish-led government in Bihar has ordered a fresh probe into the alleged soil purchase scam in Patna. The deputy CM of Bihar, Sushil Kumar Modi, had earlier alleged that soil used for construction of basement of an upcoming mall near Saguna Mor was purchased by Patna zoo for Rs 90 lakh without inviting any tender. Modi had claimed the two-acre land of the mall belonged to a firm where RJD chief Lalu Yadav’s sons Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and Tej Pratap were in the board of directors. |
| The NIA said that Syed Ali Shah Geelani aide Devinder Singh Behal passed secret information to Pakistan. “We suspect that Behal, who has been in close contact with people in Pakistan High Commission, was passing on classified information to alleged ISI moles, putting national security at risk. This is a serious offence and a potential ground to charge him under Section 121 of IPC (waging war against the state),” a senior NIA officer said. Behal’s premises were raided by the NIA on Sunday in the J&K terror funding case. |

| The CBI told the Supreme Court yesterday that 138 graft cases have been stalled due to Supreme Court stays. The solicitor general Ranjit Kumar informed the apex court that some of the appeals were pending in the SC for the last 15 years and the CBI investigating officers fear that any further delay in restarting the trials would result in losing evidence. The SG requested the court for vacation of stay granted on the petitions filed by accused persons who were prosecuted under the Prevention of Corruption Act by the CBI. |
| The government has doubled the quantum of the monthly increase in domestic LPG cylinder price to Rs 4. The decision is aimed at hastening the end of the subsidy regime for the kitchen fuel as the gap with market price shrank to Rs 86.54 for each refill in June amid an extended period of low global oil prices. With oil prices expected to remain low, the higher quantum of monthly hike could wipe out the subsidy sooner if oil prices fall further. |
