| Nitish Kumar will be taking oath as the chief minister of Bihar at 10am. Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi will be sworn-in as the deputy CM. The JD(U)-BJP combine will return to power after four years in Bihar. A list of 132 MLAs supporting the alliance was submitted to the governor late on Wednesday. These include 71 of JD(U), BJP 53, RLSP 2, LJP 2, HAM 1 and three Independents. The development has left RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav out of government and his father and party chief Lalu Prasad emasculated. It would be Nitish Kumar’s 6th term as chief minister. |

| The death toll due to heavy rains and floods in Gujarat has touched to 119. | High court slapped a cost of Rs 10,000 on Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in Arun Jaitley’s defamation suits. Also, justice Manmohan cautioned him to refrain from putting any “scandalous” queries during Jaitley’s cross examination. HC observed that the remarks made by senior advocate Ram Jethmalani, who had earlier appeared for the CM, were “indecent, scandalous and abusive” and demanded an undertaking from Kejriwal’s new lawyer, Anoop George Chaudhari, who will now cross-examine Jaitley on August 28. |

| BJP president Amit Shah will contest Rajya Sabha poll from Gujarat on August 8. With this, he will make his debut in Parliament. Shah is currently a sitting MLA from Naranpura in Ahmedabad. I&B and textiles minister Smriti Irani will be BJP’s other Rajya Sabha nominee from Gujarat. Irani’s tenure as an MP of the Upper House ends on August 18.
