| At least one cybercrime was reported every 10 minutes in India in the first six months of 2017. According to the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), 27,482 cases of cybercrime were reported from January to June. These include phishing, scanning or probing, site intrusions, defacements, virus or malicious code, ransomware and denial-of-service attacks.

| Seven Indian companies made it to the latest edition of the Fortune Global 500 list, which ranks companies by their revenues. The US continues to have the largest presence on the elite list with 132 firms, but China is not too far behind at 109 and is leading the Asian drive to the top. The Indian companies are Indian Oil (168), Reliance Industries (203), State Bank of India (217), Tata Motors (247), Rajesh Exports (295), Bharat Petroleum (360) and Hindustan Petroleum (384).

| The Lok Sabha passed the RTE (Amendment) Bill allowing teachers appointed on or before March 31, 2015 to acquire minimum qualifications within four years from the date of commencement of the Act. This gives the 8.5 lakh unqualified teachers, appointed after implementation of the RTE law, another chance to get recognized degrees. The amendment bill gives them the final chance till March 2019 to get degrees or they may lose jobs.

| The Central Bureau of Investigation initiated a probe into the alleged supply of Chinese parts for manufacturing Dhanush guns, an indigenous version of Bofors gun. The agency has booked a Delhi-based firm Sidh Sales Syndicate and unknown officers of Guns Carriage Factory (GCF), Jabalpur, for criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery. The Chinese parts were camouflaged as ‘Made in Germany’. |
