India entered ICC Women’s World Cup final after they beat Australia by 36 runs yesterday. Harmanpreet Kaur smashed a career-best 171 off 115 balls, as India put up an imposing 281 for 4 after rain reduced the match to 42-overs a side. In reply, Australia was bowled out for 245 runs, Deepti Sharma picking 3 wickets for 59 runs. India will meet England in the final at Lords on July 23.

India yesterday accused Pakistan of “deliberately targeting” villages and school children near the Line of Control. Indian Director General of Military Operations Lt-General A K Bhatt said that Pakistan army troops had fired at school children in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district when they were being evacuated from the area on July 18. Bhatt told his Pakistani counterpart Major General Sahir Shamshad Mirza over the hotline to exercise “strict control” over his troops.
Chester Bennington, the lead singer of the rock band Linkin Park, was found dead yesterday of apparent suicide. Bennington, 41, known for his powerful and belting vocals, died at his Palos Verdes home near Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office said. Celebrity website TMZ, citing law enforcement sources, said Bennington had hung himself in his house when his family was out of town.

The support Ram Nath Kovind got augurs well for the BJP’s move to build a strong pan-India coalition ahead of the 2019 election, said BJP leaders. A Comptroller and Auditor General audit report to be tabled in Parliament today, said that food served in Railways is unfit for humans. The audit has observed that contaminated foodstuff, recycled foodstuff, packaged and bottled items past their shelf life and unauthorised brands of water bottles were offered for sale at stations. During a joint inspection of the CAG team and the railways at selected 74 stations and 80 trains, the audit noticed that cleanliness and hygiene were not being maintained at catering units at stations and in trains.
