Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti accused China of interfering in state’s internal affairs. “External forces are involved in this fight, there is infiltration, militants are coming. Their attempt is to spoil the atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir. Now unfortunately China has also started interfering,” Mehbooba said after a meeting with home minister Rajnath Singh. The reference is also being seen in the context of China raising the Kashmir issue in the light of the current stand off between Indian and Chinese troops near the Sikkim-Tibet-Bhutan trijunction. |

An FIR was lodged against BJP Rajya Sabha MP Roopa Ganguly for her remarks about the safety of women in West Bengal. Four sanitation workers died of asphyxiation while cleaning a septic tank in south Delhi’s Ghitorni area. The sanitation workers had gone down to clean the tank at an under-construction building in the area but did not come out for long. They were later pulled out in an unconscious state by fire department personnel after an hour-long operation at around 11am on Saturday. It is suspected that they inhaled toxic gases inside the tank. |
Maryam Mirzakhani, mathematician who was the first woman to win the coveted Fields Medal, died after a battle with cancer. 40-year-old Mirzakhani, a professor at Stanford University in California, died after the cancer she had been battling for four years spread to her bone marrow, Iranian media said. In 2014 Mirzakhani won the Fields Medal, the equivalent of the Nobel Prize for Mathematics, which is awarded by the International Congress of Mathematicians. |
