| An Army jawan was martyred after Pakistan army violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district today. Lance Naik Mohammed Naseer, injured during the gunfight, succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital, a senior police official said. Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta said that Pakistan army resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing at Indian positions in Rajouri’s Manjakot and Balakot sectors of the LoC. |

| Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti said today that Amarnath yatra attack was aimed at disturbing communal harmony. Mehbooba Mufti met Union home minister Rajnath Singh today to discuss the security situation in the valley in the wake of the Amarnath terror attack. After the meeting, she said, “External forces are involved in this fight, there is infiltration, terrorists are coming. Their attempt is to spoil the atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir.” |
| The Committee of Administrators (CoA) today approved the appointment of Indian cricket team’s head coach Ravi Shastri. The CoA said the Indian cricket team’s support staff will be recruited after consultation with Shastri by July 22. This has effectively put on hold Zaheer Khan and Rahul Dravid’s appointments as consultants for overseas tours. |

| The US House of Representatives has voted today for three legislative amendments to impose tougher conditions for defence funding to Pakistan. As per the amendments, Islamabad has to show satisfactory progress in countering terrorism for the reimbursement of defence funding from US. It specified that Pakistan would not be eligible for a national security waiver unless the secretary of defence certifies that Pakistan continues to conduct military operations against the Haqqani Network in North Waziristan. |
| The bail plea of Malayalam actor Dileep, who is allegedly behind the sexual assaulting of an actor, was rejected today. The prosecution objected the plea stating that the there are chances of Dileep influencing other witnesses in the case, including Pulsar Suni’s former counsel Pratheesh Chacko and Dileep’s aide Appunni. The Angamaly Judicial first class magistrate court, which was hearing the case, rejected the Dileep’s bail plea and sent him to judicial custody till July 25. |
