G20 leaders, except US president Donald Trump, declared Paris climate deal ‘irreversible’. Trump in June had announced that the US will withdraw from the Paris climate accord. While leaders of 19 countries of the G20 group, including India, have reaffirmed their faith in the Paris deal, calling it “irreversible“, the US stood by itself. The US did manage to get its position on fossil fuels inserted in the joint statement through a formulation promising more efforts for “clean and efficient” use without any commitment to its end.

A high-level govt inquiry into the Adarsh housing society scandal has blamed several top military officers including 2 ex-Army chiefs. Most of those named in the report were allotted flats in the <a href=”http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/most-military-officers-named-in-probe-own-flats-in-adarsh-cooperative-housing-society/articleshow/59508952.cms”>Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society</a> (ACHS), the towering 31-storey building which poses a grave security threat to the adjacent defence installations and helipad in the Colaba military station. Three people were killed and the toy train station was set ablaze in Darjeeling. The Sonada station, along with a local police station and a traffic police booth, was set ablaze by demonstrators after the death of Tashi Bhutia, a Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) supporter, late on Friday evening. A patient needing surgery which cannot be performed at a government hospital within 30 days or if the hospital doesn’t have infrastructure can be referred to a private hospital. The free surgery can be conducted within a fortnight at any of the 48 private hospitals. “We lay emphasis on health and education, there will be no dearth of funds for this scheme,” CM Arvind Kejriwal said.
