| China issued a safety advisory for its citizens travelling to India. Amid the ongoing border stand-off, China asked travellers to India to pay close attention to the security situation and take necessary precautions. “It is not a travel alert. It is an advisory asking Chinese travellers to be careful,” an official of the Chinese foreign ministry in Beijing said. |
| After the Goods and Services Tax, supercars and ultra-luxury cars became cheaper by over a crore. The central government has capped the tax amount on the high-end Completely Built Units (CBU) at Rs 20 lakh. | The United Nations adopted a global treaty banning nuclear weapons. India and eight other nuclear – armed nations, including the US, China, and Pakistan did not participate in the negotiations. The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, the first multilateral legally-binding instrument for nuclear disarmament in 20 years, was adopted by a vote of 122 in favour to one against (Netherlands) and one abstention (Singapore). |
| West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she would order judicial inquiry into the Basirhat-Baduria violence. She also accused the Centre of not cooperating. “For over a month there has been unrest in the hills. Centre is not cooperating to maintain law and order in Darjeeling,” she said. The Centre, however, said Mamata returned 400 central troops which were sent to West Bengal. |
