| The GST Council has lowered tax rates of 66 items, including insulin and agarbattis. GST on movie tickets under Rs 100 has been slashed to 18 per cent, while tickets priced above Rs 100 will be taxed at 28 per cent tax, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said. While the Council has also lowered tax rate on computer printers from 28 per cent to 18 per cent, the tax rate on sanitary napkins remains unchanged. |

| Maharashtra government has announced loan waiver for farmers. The move comes after the agitating farmers met with the special panel of ministers constituted by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis earlier in the day to discuss their demands. Farmers in Maharashtra, who have been on strike for the last 11 days, have called off their planned protest as the state government today announced its decision to waive their loans. |

Deepa engineered this kerfuffle when her failed attempt to enter the Poes Garden residence of her late aunt led to a falling out with her brother, Deepak. Deepa went on the offensive claiming that her sibling should be “punished” for “killing” Jayalalithaa. “He is culpable like Sasikala. He killed Amma along with her (Sasikala). They did it for the money,” former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s niece said. |

| Pakistan has increased the security around Chinese citizens streaming into the country on the back of Beijing’s Belt and Road initiative. Pakistani officials have outlined security plans that include thousands-strong police protection forces, tighter monitoring of Chinese nationals, and in the province of Baluchistan – where the two teachers were kidnapped on May 24 – a review of security arrangements. The protection forces will buttress a 15,000-strong army division set up specifically to safeguard projects in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative. |
| Chandigarh student Sarvesh Mehtani has topped the IIT-JEE (Advanced) engineering test the results of which were announced today. Pune’s Akshat Chugh was in second position and Delhi’s Ananye Agarwal was placed third in the prestigious advanced entrance exam to the Indian Institutes of Technology. As many as 1.74 lakh students had registered for JEE (Advanced) this year and the high scorers will be competing for close to 11,000 seats in 23 IITs. Seat allotment is expected to begin on June 19. |
