The Indian Army is well-prepared to face external as well as internal threats, Chief of Army Staff said. “Indian Army is fully ready for a two-and-a-half front(China, Pakistan and internal security requirements simultaneously) war,” General Bipin Rawat said. He added that even though India is ready for a multi-front war, there are effective mechanisms available to defuse an adverse situation. “Even the PM has stated that for the last forty years not even a single bullet has been fired on the Indo-China border,” General Rawat said. |

Rahul Gandhi was released after being taken into preventive custody in MP’s Mandsaur. The farmer movement in Madhya Pradesh moved into high political gear today as Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and other senior party leaders were detained by police when they tried to make their way to Mandsaur, ground zero of the protests. Police moved in to stop Gandhi as he defied elaborate security arrangements and tried to force his way into the state from Naya Gaon in Neemuch, about 400 km from the state capital Bhopal. He was released later in the day. |
The Army was called in by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee to curb the Darjeeling protest. Angry Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) activists damaged and torched four police vehicles and stoned policemen who lobbed tear-gas shells to quell the agitation. The party was holding a rally to press their demand for a separate state of Gorkhaland and a circular from the Mamata Banerjee government that it had no intention to ‘impose’ Bengali in the north Bengal hills. |
