| Four persons were killed after police opened fire during a farmers’ protest in MP. The Madhya Pradesh Police opened fire to control a rioting mob of farmers protesting for higher prices for their produce in state’s Mandsaur district today. As the protest turned violent, Madhya Pradesh Police imposed curfew in Mandsaur and Piplia Mandi area. The farmers had turned violent setting afire as many as 10 trucks, one Dial 100 vehicle and three motorcycles in Piplia Mandi area, forcing CRPF and police to open fire and later impose Section 144 in several parts. |

| Imams in Britain announced they won’t perform funeral prayers for London attackers. A group of 130 imams across the country said their pain at the suffering of the victims and their families led them to take this momentuous decision. Condemning the attack which claimed the lives of seven people and injured 47 others, the group said the actions of the perpetrators was “indefensible” and they did not deserve the ritual that is normally performed for every Muslim, regardless of their deeds. |
| China made it clear that its position on India’s NSG bid remains ‘unchanged’. “China and other members including Russia maintained close communication and we also maintain that we should act in accordance with the principles of the NSG,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said. The comments came a day after external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj said that India is engaging with Moscow and making efforts to convince Beijing on the issue. |

| Saudi Arabia revoked Qatar Airways’ license and ordered its offices to be closed within 48 hours. Any licenses granted to Qatar Airways employees would also be withdrawn, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation said. The move comes a day after GACA banned all Qatari planes from landing in the kingdom’s airports, following the worst rift in years among the Gulf countries. Qatar may be cut off from rest of the Gulf countries but flights between India and Doha will operate as usual for now. The travel time, however, will most likely increase due to longer routes. |
| The DGCA filed complaint against 34 pilots of four airlines — Jet, IndiGo, SpiceJet ad GoAir. The police complaint was filed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation for “making obscene remarks” against its top officials on social media. The bad blood between pilots and the senior DGCA official happened when they mentioned his designation incorrectly in a mail. Following this, the DGCA asked Jet Airways to check the mental “alertness” of 10 of its pilots and see if they are fit enough to be allowed to fly. This agitated other pilots who then started circulating inappropriate remarks against the DGCA on social media. |
