The Election Commission’s EVM challenge will be held in the national capital today. This comes after the Uttarakhand high court yesterday barred all political parties, individuals, media and even social media networks from criticising the use of EVMs in the recently conducted assembly polls. The HC was hearing a PIL filed by Uttarakhand state congress committee vice-president Ramesh Pandey who had requested quashing of the EC’s EVM challenge as it was “illegal and unconstitutional”.

PM Modi’s visit to the US is still on despite Donald Trump’s rant against India on climate change. Although dates for the PM’s trip have not been officially announced, the White House has pencilled in June 26-27 for the first face-to-face meeting between Trump and Modi. “The relationship is bigger than any one issue. We need to keep engaging,” a senior Indian official involved in the visit told TOI, confirming the visit was still on.
Bihar board ‘topper’ Ganesh Kumar has been arrested for forgery of documents. The arrest came close on the heels of the Bihar School Examination Board’s (BSEB) decision to cancel the topper’s result and lodge a police case against him after he failed to show any academic prowess in an interview by a TV news channel. An unprecedented 65 per cent students failed the Bihar board exams this year.

The US has begun asking visa applicants for their social media handles. Consular officers can now demand extra information from applicants they deem to require “more rigorous national security vetting,” an official said. Such visa applicants will be asked to provide additional information, including their social media handles, prior passport numbers, additional information about family members, and a longer history of past travel, employment, and contact information.
German chancellor Angela Merkel and French president Emmanuel Macron have joined hands to ‘make planet great again’. Donald Trump’s move to withdraw from the Paris Deal has led to statements from Merkel and Macron that portend a realigning of the world order. While Merkel said she was putting it mildly when she said Trump’s decision is extremely regrettable, Macron came up with a sharp riposte to Trump with a sign on Twitter that said “Make our planet great again“.
