At least 80 people were killed and 350 wounded in Kabul today. A powerful vehicle-borne bomb exploded in the middle of the Afghan capital resulting in one of the most serious attacks seen in the country for several months. It was not immediately clear what the target was. But the attack underscores the spiralling insecurity in Afghanistan, where a military beset by soaring casualties and desertions is struggling to beat back the insurgents.

India’s GDP grew 6.1 per cent year-on-year during the January-March period. With this, India loses its status of the world’s fastest growing economy. China’s GDP grew 6.9 per cent during the same quarter. The GDP for the full year (2016-17 ) came in at 7.1 per cent in line with official estimate. Wednesday’s GDP data will be a disappointment for the Modi government that completed three years at the Centre last week.
Pakistan’s Attorney General will visit the ICJ to discuss Jadhav case. Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf Ali will lead a team to the International Court of Justice at The Hague on June 8 for a meeting of “agents” from India and Pakistan with the court’s president to discuss the future proceedings in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case. During the meeting, the dates for subsequent hearings and submission of documents related to the case will be discussed, Pakistani media said.

The Kerala high court supported government order banning sale of cattle for slaughter in state. The court dismissed PILs that sought quashing of the new central law banning sale of cattle for slaughter in the state saying there was no need for the judiciary to interfere with the Centre’s decision as it did not violate any law or provision in the Constitution. Widespread protests had erupted across Kerala objecting to the Centre’s imposition of ban on sale and purchase of cattle for slaughter.
Four CRPF personnel were injured after a terrorist attack in J&K’s Sopore. The CRPF party was passing by a branch of the Jammu and Kashmir Bank in Sopore when the terrorists hurled a grenade at their vehicle, injuring four jawans who had to be immediately taken to a hospital. Meanwhile in Kashmir, shops, offices and other business establishments reopened today after three days of restrictions following the killing of Hizbul commander.
