NASA said last month was the second warmest April in 137 years. The two top April temperature anomalies have occurred during the past two years. Last month was 0.88 degrees Celsius warmer than the mean April temperature from 1951-1980. April 2016 was the hottest on record, at 1.06 degrees Celsius warmer than the April mean temperature. April 2017’s temperature was 0.18 degrees Celsius cooler than April 2016. The modern global temperature record begins around 1880 because previous observations did not cover enough of the planet.

Senior Congress leader Chidambaram and his son Karti were raided by the CBI. This development came after the agency registered a case against Karti, Peter Mukerjea and Indrani Mukerjea, two private companies and unknown officials of ministry of finance for alleged corruption and criminal conspiracy for FDI approval (Foreign Investment Promotion Board approval) for INX Media Pvt Ltd. The agency teams swooped in at the residence of P Chidambaram and Karti Chidambaram in Chennai, and office and residences of other named accused persons in Delhi, Mumbai and Gurugram.
India is the second-most attractive country for renewable energy investment, according to a UK report. In the report, the UK accountancy firm EY said: “A combination of strong government support and increasingly attractive economics has helped push India into the second place.” In an annual ranking of the top 40 renewable energy markets worldwide in terms of allure, China was ranked at the top, followed by India. India was ranked third on the last year’s EY renewable energy country attractiveness index (RECAI) behind the US and China.

IT industry assured the government that there will be no large scale job losses in the sector. IT Secretary Aruna Sundararajan said there could be some cases were contracts are not renewed as part of the regular annual appraisal cycle. The industry is growing at 8-9 per cent and there is nothing to suggest that the growth is going to slow down “dramatically,” she emphasised. Besides, she said, the industry is also undergoing a shift in the job profile given the advent of cloud, big data and digital payments. Over the past few weeks, there have been reports of layoffs across the IT sector.
The government launched website ‘Operation Clean Money’ to fight black money. “The new website will help honest tax payers,” Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said during the inauguration today. Jaitley warned those dealing in black money and said “it is no longer safe to deal with excessive cash, tax-evaded money.” He also informed that 91 lakh new taxpayers have been added whereas more than 30 crore PAN allocated after the demonetisation move.
