| Hafiz Saeed and four of his aides were detained for “spreading terrorism in the name of jihad”. The Mumbai terror attack mastermind and Jamat-ud Dawah (JuD) chief, Saeed, appeared before the judicial review board yesterday and told the members that he had been detained by the Pakistani government in order to stop him for raising voice for Kashmiris. However, the interior ministry rejected his arguments and told the three-member board that Saeed and his four aides have been detained for “spreading terrorism in the name of jihad”. |

| India’s longest river bridge will be inaugurated on May 26 by PM Modi. The bridge will be capable of withstanding the weight of a 60-tonne battle tank and is situated in Assam, close to the border with China. The bridge is seen as an attempt by India to shore up its defence requirements along the Sino-Indian border particularly in the northeast besides providing easy access to the people of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam with air and rail connectivity. |
| AAP accused the BJP of colluding with suspended member Kapil Mishra to try to “finish AAP”. “BJP, stop hiding behind Kapil Mishra to tarnish Kejriwal’s name. Stop attacking from behind Mishra. You want to fight with AAP? Come in front and fight,” said AAP leader Sanjay Singh, soon after Mishra called a press conference. In the press conference, Mishra alleged that party leaders close to Arvind Kejriwal concealed donations from the public, lied to the Election Commission and laundered money using 16 shell companies. At the end, he appeared to have fainted and was rushed to a hospital. |

| Two terrorists were killed in a fierce gunbattle in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. The security forces had launched a cordon and search operation based on a specific intelligence input about the presence of militants there. As the security forces were conducting the search operation, militants fired upon them, an Army official said. The security forces retaliated and in resulting encounter, two militants were killed, the Army official said. The gunfight is now over and the area is being sanitised. |
