Indore is the cleanest city in India, according to a government survey. Bhopal, another city from Madhya Pradesh, has been ranked second while Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Surat in Gujarat have emerged as the third and fourth cleanest cities. The survey was done among 434 cities, except the cities of West Bengal, which did not participate in the ranking. Gonda in Uttar Pradesh is the dirtiest Indian city.

Army Chief General Bipin Rawat said the counter-infiltration posture in J&K has been beefed up after the recent attack. Without sharing the plan, the Army Chief said India will retaliate appropriately to Pakistan army which beheaded two Indian soldiers on LoC. “We don’t talk about future plans beforehand. We share details after execution,” he said.
​The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) asked BCCI to immediately select the Indian cricket squad for the Champions Trophy. The Champions Trophy is beginning on July 1 in Englad and Wales. The CoA quizzed BCCI joint secretary Amitabh Chaudhary as to why the team for the upcoming 50-over tournament has not yet been selected despite the deadline of April 25. There had been speculations that the Indian cricket board might pull out of the Champions Trophy in an act of defiance against ICC’s revised financial model.

​ China said it won’t meddle in the Kashmir row as it is a dispute between India and Pakistan. “China’s position on the issue of Kashmir is clear and consistent. It is an issue left over from history between India and Pakistan and shall be properly addressed by India and Pakistan through consultation and negotiation,” China’s foreign ministry said after a commentary in the Global Times daily said China was ready to resolve the Kashmir dispute because of its investment in Chine-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
​ The Bombay High Court upheld the life sentence of 11 convicts in the 2002 Bilkis Bano gangrape case. The high court also dismissed an appeal by the CBI to enhance punishment from life sentence to death for three convicts. Bilkis Bano‘s family was attacked by a mob at Randhikpur village near Ahemadabad during the post-Godhra riots on March 3, 2002.
