The Bombay High Court granted bail to Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. The court, however, rejected the bail plea of co-accused Prasad Purohit, a former army lieutenant colonel, saying the charges against him are of “serious and grave” nature. Six persons were killed and nearly 100 others injured when a bomb strapped to a motorcycle had exploded in Malegaon town of Nashik district on September 29, 2008.

A Delhi court awarded 7-year jail term to gangster Chhota Rajan in a fake passport case. CBI special judge Virender Kumar Goyal awarded the sentence to Rajan and three retired public servants for offences including forgery of valuable security under the IPC which entails a maximum punishment of life imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on each of them.
The 25 CRPF jawans were having lunch when Maoists ambushed them in Chhattisgarh yesterday, said officials.

China banned Islamic names for babies in Muslim-majority Xinjiang region.
“Children with banned names will not be able to obtain a “hukou,” or household registration, essential for accessing public school and other social services,” an official was quoted as saying by Radio Free Asia. The new measures are part of China’s fight against terrorism in this troubled region, home to 10 million Muslim Uyghur ethnic minority.
