| The Supreme Court referred the triple talaq case to a five-judge constitution bench. The case relates to a batch of petitions filed in the top court, including by the Centre, regarding whether divorce by saying ‘talaq’ three times is legal. The hearing will begin on May 11. A bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice D Y Chandrachud said the hearing will go on even during the summer vacation. |
| Flyers will no longer need to get their cabin bag “security checked” at seven Indian airports from April 1. This will come into force in the airports of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Cochin. The remaining 52 airports of the country will be examined to implement the same in a later phase. No advanced country, including the US and EU nations, have this requirement of stamping hand bag tags |
| China will prohibit “abnormal” beards, wearing of veil in public places in Xinjiang. The move is to contain religious extremism in that region. Hundreds of people have died in recent years in Xinjiang, home to the Muslim Uighur people, in unrest blamed by Beijing on Islamist militants and separatists. |
