The VIPs in India would soon come under the security cover of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Director General OP Singh has said. “The central government has given an instruction that VIPs protection will be carried out by the CISF. Probably, we will be taking all the security of the VIPs, who are now being guarded by the CRPF and other agencies, very soon,” Singh said, adding that they had proposed to the central government to upgrade the training centre at Thakkolam as a centre for the excellence of aviation security. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is ‘miffed’ with BJP members for not responding to his ‘namaste’ and other messages on the NaMo app. During the BJP parliamentary meeting yesterday, the PM aired his grievance and took party legislators to task for ignoring his morning greetings. “I say ‘namaste’ to you every morning on the NaMo app but apart from five or six MPs, no one responds,” he reportedly told party members at the meeting. The Prime Minister also complained that often, he sends important messages with his morning greetings, but these too went unacknowledged.
Pakistan has accused India of using Afghanistan for hatching conspiracies against China- Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The “enemies of Pakistan” were using different tactics and propaganda to fail the $50 billion CPEC economically, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal said, adding, “India is using the soil of Afghanistan for such conspiracies.” The minister also said that the United States should stop hurling threats at Pakistan and recognise the sacrifices it had rendered in the war against terrorism.

Alleged supporters of wrestlers Sushil Kumar and Parveen Rana clashed at the KD Jadhav Stadium today. According to Times Now, the scuffle broke out after Parveen bit Sushil during a Commonwealth Games qualification trail in the national capital. London Olympic silver medallist Sushil condemned the incident calling it ‘unfortunate’. “It is very unfortunate and I condemn it. It is wrong and there is no space for such things in sports,” the 34-year-old, who recently returned to the mat, told reporters.
The Indian economy slowed down in 2016-17, with the GDP declining drastically from 8 per cent in 2015-16 to 7.1 per cent the next year, government said today. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the slower economic growth reflected lower growth in the industry and the services sectors, due to a number of factors including structural, external, fiscal and monetary factors. The lower rate of global economic growth in 2016, along with a reduction in gross fixed investment to GDP ratio, stressed balance sheets of the corporate sector, lower credit growth in industry sector were some of the reasons for the low growth rate in 2016-17, Jaitley said.
